Measure the packed parcel
Length × width × height in cm, at the widest points, packaging included. 28 × 22 × 6 cm = 3,696 cm³.
Type your box size and weight to see its volumetric weight, the weight you are billed for, and the slab it falls in on Flipkart, Amazon or any courier. In cm or inches.

Length × width × height in cm, at the widest points, packaging included. 28 × 22 × 6 cm = 3,696 cm³.
3,696 ÷ 5000 = 0.74 kg. That is the volumetric weight. With inches, divide by 305 instead.
The parcel weighs 0.38 kg, so it is billed at 0.74 kg: Flipkart's 0.5–1.0 kg slab. At 4 cm high it would be 0.49 kg.
| Volumetric weight in kg | Length × width × height in cm ÷ 5000. A 28 × 22 × 6 cm box is 0.74 kg. |
|---|---|
| In inches | Length × width × height in inches ÷ 305. 5,000 cm³ is 305 cubic inches. |
| In grams | Length × width × height in cm ÷ 5. The same box is 739 g. |
| Air cargo | Length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000. One cubic metre counts as 167 kg. |
| Billed (chargeable) weight | The higher of the actual weight and the volumetric weight, rounded up to the slab. |
| Flipkart | Box size ÷ 5000, and the higher of that and the dead weight. Slabs of 0.5 kg up to 3 kg, then 1 kg. The settlement report shows each order's dead weight, box size, volumetric weight and slab. |
|---|---|
| Amazon | Box size ÷ 5000, and the higher of that and the actual weight. Easy Ship: 500 g at least, then steps of 500 g. FBA: steps of 500 g up to 1 kg, then 1 kg. |
| Meesho | Not published. Meesho says its return shipping fee is based on the weight of the shipment. |
Amazon: its fees and pricing page. Flipkart: settlement reports from September 2025 to February 2026, in which every order's volumetric weight is its box size ÷ 5000. Meesho: its shipping page. Checked 21 October 2026.
Flipkart seller fees: what each column in the settlement report means
The weight a parcel is charged for by the space it takes up. A van or a plane fills up by space as well as by weight, so a big, light parcel is billed as if it were heavier. It is also called dimensional weight. Amazon and Flipkart work it out as length × width × height in cm ÷ 5000.
Multiply the length, width and height in centimetres, then divide by 5000. A 28 × 22 × 6 cm box is 3,696 cm³, and 3,696 ÷ 5000 = 0.74 kg. Measure the packed parcel at its widest points.
Multiply the three sides in inches and divide by 305, or pick inches in the calculator above. 305 cubic inches is the same space as 5,000 cm³.
The divisor is how many cubic centimetres count as one kilogram. Amazon and Flipkart in India use 5000. Air cargo uses 6000, so the same box comes out lighter there: one cubic metre counts as 167 kg instead of 200 kg. Use the divisor your courier's rate card states.
Whichever is higher, rounded up to the slab. A small, heavy parcel is billed by its actual weight (also called dead weight); a big, light one by its size.
Box size in cm ÷ 5000, and the higher of that and the dead weight is billed, in slabs of 0.5 kg up to 3 kg, then 1 kg. The settlement report has columns for the dead weight, the box size, the volumetric weight, the slab, and whether Flipkart measured the parcel or used the weight you gave; Flipkart seller fees shows where. SECND's return fee checks flag returns charged at a heavier weight than the product usually is.
Amazon's fees page gives length × breadth × height in cm ÷ 5000, and the shipping fee is charged on that or the actual weight, whichever is higher. On Easy Ship the least it charges for is 500 g, then each further 500 g. To see what the fee leaves you on a sale, use the Amazon seller calculator.
Meesho does not publish how it weighs parcels or its weight slabs. It says its return shipping fee is based on the weight of the shipment. The charges on each order are in your payment file; Meesho seller charges shows where.
Use the smallest box that fits, or a polybag for clothes, and fold to cut the height. The dark panel under the calculator shows how tall your box can be for each slab. If the marketplace weighs a product heavier than its listing says, correct the listing weight.
